Tear Trough/Under eye can affect younger and older individuals and is characterised by a sunken appearance of the eye that results in the casting of a dark shadow over the lower eyelid, giving the patient a fatigued appearance in an otherwise well-rested person and is refractory to attempts at cosmetic concealment. The trough can become deeper, the circles darker, and often there may be a contributory flattening of the cheek in the older person. The upper and lower eyelids can lose elasticity and start to sag and fatty deposits under the lower eyelids can make this deformity worse.

Dr Bharat Patel uses advanced non-surgical techniques to correct tear trough taking into account the complete anatomy in this delicate area, a good improvement is possible in the younger and older patient.

FAQ

Tear Trough Deformity is the hollowing of the under eye area that may present at any age, but often becomes worse with age. It is a result of changes in the skin, muscle or fat layer in relation to the peri-orbital rim. Anatomically it is a depression centred over the medial inferior orbital rim and bounded superiorly by the infraorbital fat protuberance. If the cause is due to ageing , the globe descends within the orbit and the infraorbital fat is displaced anteriorly. There may be hyperpigmentation, creating an illusion of greater depth of the trough.
